FAQ's About Your Event

If any of your questions are not answered below, please feel free to
contact me with any further questions.

Do we need a piano at the event?
No, if there is not a piano at the event, I will bring a keyboard.

Will the music be too loud for people to have conversations?
No, the goal is to make the music present enough to create the atmosphere, yet quiet enough for people to have normal conversations. At the event, it is always helpful for you to tell us if we are playing too soft or too loud.

What styles of music can you provide?
Primarily jazz, but I can also provide some classical, broadway, and pop.  For example, I often play classical music at wedding ceremonies.

Is your kind of jazz abstract or avant garde?
No, we play mainstream straight ahead jazz that is perfect for cocktail hours or parties.  We play standards by composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Rodgers and Hart, just to name a few.  Have a listen.

Do you play with any other instruments besides those heard on the Listen page?  Yes, I have played with clarinet, flute, saxophone, violin, and other singers.  Sometimes piano with flute is popular for wedding ceremonies and piano with saxophone for cocktail hours.  I will always tell you if I can meet your musical needs and will try to point you in another direction if I cannot.

Is your music for dancing?
While some of our ensembles (jazz trio or quartet) can be danced to, o
ur music is perfect to create the elegant atmosphere you may be looking for, but not appropriate for a dance themed party.

Do you provide continuous music?
We generally play an hour on, then 15 minutes off for the duration of the event.  The stereo system at the event venue can often be turned on during our break if you desire continuous music.  It is also sometimes nice to not have continuous  music just for a contrast.

Do you require a down payment?  No, the full payment is due the day of the event.  However, after signing the contract you must adhere to the cancellation policy.

What if the event is canceled?  When you sign the the contract you are agreeing to the cancellation policy.  This policy says that cancellations greater than 72 hours before the event still require one half of the total payment and that cancellation less than 72 hours before the event require the full payment.  If the event is cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions, there is no payment due.

What is your fee?
That depends on the details of your event (length of event, number of musicians, driving distance, etc.) and can be given to you after gathering those details.

What time will you arrive at the event?
If I am bringing a keyboard, I will arrive and set up 60 minutes before the music starts.  If a piano is already at the event, I will arrive  30 minutes before the music starts.  If other musicians are playing with me, the ones who need to set up any equipment will arrive 60 minutes before the music starts and the others will arrive 30 minutes before the music starts.

Do you take requests?
Yes, but to ensure a special song is played, please list it on the contract so we can have it prepared.  Otherwise, we are glad to play any song if we know it, but we cannot play a song that we don't know.

Do we need to feed the musicians?
No, it is not required, but we need to know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.

What will you wear to the event?
You decide what is appropriate for the particular function.  The most common seems to be a suit and tie, but sometimes it's a tuxedo or casual attire.
